Russia Banned from 2018 Olympics

Due to a huge doping scandal the 2018 Russian Olympic has been banned from the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The team has been accused of illegally doping athletes in a systematic way, The extent of the doping has never been seen before. Officials say the closest incident like this was the German teams in the 60’s and 70’s. The investigation took a year and the I.O.C (International Olympic Committee) cracked down with a complete ban of the Russian team. Special cases will be made for some of their athletes and they will perform under a neutral flag. Russia is expected to possibly protest the Olympics, but no official word has been given. The Russian sports ministry tampered with hundreds of urine samples to mask the use of steroids used in the 2014 Sochi games. The athletes involved with the scandal have had their names cut out of the Sochi standings, a reassignment of medals will be given at Pyeongchang. Viewers hope that the biggest organized cheating scandal in Olympic history does not damage the historic nature of the Olympics, and that nothing like this will ever happen again.
