In the NFL preseason of 2016, Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem before a game. Kaepernick is tying to push this movement for the inequality of African Americans in the United States. Colin Kaepernick has said “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour.” He also stated “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” Now more football players have been taking part in the movement. Lately, there have been these protests at almost all of the NFL games. President Trump has intervened and has made statements about firing anyone who takes a knee. These actions have not been made by coaches. Most people are outraged by players taking a knee, saying that it is disrespectful and should not happen. Lately, players have been getting more attention and respect since it has began. These athletes want more attention to the inequality of African Americans.
