Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is most commonly known as the scary month, the month with Halloween. October is also a month for something much more important, domestic violence. Here in Lima we embrace this by decorating trees with purple decorations all over the city. This tradition has been done for 18 years, and the trees are supposed to represent the strong survivors and victims of domestic violence. Domestic violence affects much more people than one would think, almost everyone knows someone who is affected by domestic violence. A new tree was just planted in front of Buffalo Wild Wings to make more people in the community aware of this issue. A statement was also made by Allen County Commissioner Cory Noonan that brought respect to the lost victims and, celebration and strength to the survivors. He wanted everyone to know that anyone who is in a position where they do not feel safe can always find help.
