This past Monday was the sixteenth anniversary of the crashing of the twin towers. On September 11th, 2001 terrorists attacked the United States. They hijacked four planes in the middle of a flight. After hijacking the plane, the terrorists then continued to fly the two planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks. This was a mourning time for people all over the country. The attacks of 9/11 had both immediate and long-term impacts on the whole country. 9/11 will forever be an important date in American history. Every year on 9/11 there is a moment of silence. This moment of silence is for the loss of lives from the attack. On Monday, September 11, 2017 the moment of silence time was at 8:46 am. They chose the moment of silence time to be 8:46 am because this was the time of the first attack. 9/11 was a sad day for America, and will never be forgotten or dishonored.
