My Opinion on Gender

“Talking about gender for most people is the equivalent of fish talking about water.” -Judith Lorbor. This statement struck me. What is she really saying here? Fish clearly need water to live. They can live out of water momentarily, but ultimately they need it to survive. Is this true about humans and gender? Do we have to classify ourselves with a gender in order to survive? It’s overbearing to live in a society that is demanding you to classify yourself. Can we live in the world today without giving verbalization to our gender? Better yet, why do we have to? Whose problem or situation is it if I choose to classify my gender or not? It’s my choice, it’s my decision, it’s my life. Whatever works for me and makes me happy is what I should do, and same goes for you. So to the next human being that tries to tell me my own identity, I will tell them to examine themselves first.
