Instagram Makes Video Updates

Since it was first introduced in 2012, the Instagram app has been on a constant climb. Lately, Instagram has had competition with other photo and video-viewing apps like YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat. In the past six months, the number of people that watch videos on the Instagram app has gone up 40%. Because of this increase, Instagram has decided to raise the maximum number of seconds per video from 15 seconds to a full minute. One likely reason for this change is the amount of money Instagram can make off of video advertisements. The amount of money spend on video advertisements is expected to hit $9.59 billion this year. Since Instagram has about 400 million active users, they can easily make a lot of money from advertisements. The updates cannot come soon enough for Instagram, as Facebook has also been expanding their video features. Snapchat is also using brands to combine pictures and videos. Instagram has some serious competition and they need to keep making improvements if they want to keep up.
