New fad diets pop up all the time and usually take over social media. The newest of these diets is called the Chick-Fil-A diet. If you have eaten at Chick-Fil-A before, you would know that they have little sayings on the package the food comes in. One gives “great ideas for healthier living”. One of the great ideas they have is to “eat smaller meals (like a pack of an eight-count of grilled nuggets) every three to four hours”. The nutrition facts on Chick-Fil-A’s grilled chicken nuggets says that they contain 140 calories. They are also a good source of protein, coming in at 23 grams per serving. But at 530 mg of sodium per serving, eating chicken nuggets every few hours like Chick-Fil-A says, you would come very close to reaching the recommend limit of 2,300 mg of daily sodium intake. Alissa Rumsey, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, said that “While it is high protein and lower calorie, it is a highly processed product that falls short on many nutrients including fiber, vitamins and minerals, plus each serving of the nuggets provides about 20 percent of the sodium most people need in a day.” So even though this particular diet may not be good for you, experts say that eating every few hours can be beneficial for one’s body, but it should be healthy food choices and not just anything you grab.
