The Obama administration decided to sell $1.83 billion worth of weapons to our ally Taiwan on Wednesday the 16th. Despite opposition from China, the first shipment was sent to the island. The shipment included amphibious assault vehicles, anti-aircraft, anti-ship systems, and two U.S. Navy guided Oliver Hazard Perry class missile frigates. This deal is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, which is an appreciation pact for Taiwan being allied to the United States. This deal is the first of hopefully many arms deals with our allies as old United States military equipment is being replaced with newer, more potent and powerful pieces.
