Russians in Syria

Since the outbreak of civil war in Syria, Russia’s involvement in the country has risen. Within the past few months, Russia and Syria have worked together to build an airbase and are now constructing two new military bases to station Russian troops. This, along with the influx of Russian armory, troops, and weapons, makes Syria an even more risky battleground. With Russia having 25 fighter and attack aircraft, 9 tanks, 3 surface-to-air missiles, 15 helicopters, and 500 troops in Syria, one can see the problem. However, this collaboration between Russia and Syria may work to benefit the United States. This is because both countries have proclaimed ISIS and other terrorist groups as an enemy. Conversely, the allianceĀ could force the US’s hand and put American boots on ground in Syria.
